On the basis of heating value, it is subdivided into sub bituminous A, sub bituminous B, and sub bituminous C ranks. Bituminous. Bituminous is the most abundant rank of coal.

Clastic sedimentary rocks are subdivided on the basis of grain size. Secondary characteristics used to further distinguish clastic rocks are sorting, grain shape, and grain composition. Grain size: Clastic sediments are distinguished on the basis of average grain size. gravel-size particles are larger than 2 mm diameterA characteristic coal blend as shown in Table 1 was prepared, dried at 105 ºC for 2 hours and divided into two grain size fractions by ASTM 7Mesh sieve. Thus, two base blends were made: one with particle size below 2.83 mm and another with particle size above this range ( Figure 1 ).

Mineral composition, grain size and microstructure are known to be the most important parameters that influence rock strength and elastic properties. Bemeret al. Coals are classified into three main ranks, or types: lignite, bituminous coal, and anthracite. These classifications are based on the amount of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen present in the coal. Coals other constituents include hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, ash, and sulfur. Some of the undesirable chemical constituents include chlorine and sodium.Coal with a particle size greater than 4 mesh is ineligible for gas adsorption measurements. For one thing, the adsorption equilibrium of coal samples is difficult to achieve; for another thing, the particle size has a negative effect on the micropore volume of coal [25].
